Call for Session Proposals


The Pennsylvania Department of Education invites you to submit proposals for breakout sessions at the Pennsylvania Governor’s Conference on Higher Education to be held June 10-11, 2010, in Lancaster, PA. The conference theme is Access and Student Success in Postsecondary Education.

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

1. Relation to the conference theme of access and student success in postsecondary education.

2. Use of data driven evidence. Presentation is based on evidence of improved student learning and performance or other outcome measures.

3. Connection to best practices. Presentation demonstrates best practices through experience and research or a technique or method that has proven to reliably lead to a desired result.

4. Use of innovation. Presentation introduces or explains advancement in a new method, synthesis of knowledge or a successful implementation of a creative idea or technology.

5. Focus on a critical issue. Presentation thoroughly discusses a critical issue facing higher education and provides a reasonable solution (policy, program or other) based on sound evidence.

Proposals will be categorized into the following conference tracks:

1. Preparing for Success in Higher Education
2. Succeeding in Higher Education
3. Foundations for Institutional Success

Additional Information

Breakout sessions are one hour and fifteen minutes. Presenters should allow adequate time for questions and answers from participants.

PDE welcomes panels of presenters and encourages collaboration among organizations. If the proposal is a panel presentation, please identify a Primary Session Presenter on the Call for Proposals Form along with the name of each additional panelist. Presentations will be limited to four or fewer panelists per presentation.

All meeting rooms will be equipped with a laptop, screen, LCD projector and podium with microphone (if room size requires). Please indicate any additional AV needs on the Call for Proposals Form. Presentations should be brought to the conference on a portable drive and will be loaded onto the meeting room computer the day of the presentation.

Presenters must personally register for the conference and make their own overnight accommodations registration begins March 15, 2010.

Deadline & Submission

All proposals must be submitted to Sue Walker at swalker@pahigheredconference.com on the Call for Proposals Form no later than midnight on March 1, 2010. Proposals in other formats will not be considered. Presenters will be notified by April 15, 2010.
